This Privacy Policy explains how Snippix (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and handles information when you visit snippix.co. By using Snippix you agree to the practices described below.
1. Information We Collect
You can browse Snippix without creating an account. If you choose to sign in, we collect and store the following information.
Account and profile data
- Your email address
- Your first and last name (provided by you or from your Google profile)
- Your Google profile photo URL (Google sign-in only)
- The date your account was created and the date of your last sign-in
Usage and preference data
- Posts you have saved (bookmarked)
- Content types you have engaged with (likes, insights, shares) — stored as aggregate preference counts, not a per-post history in your profile
- Your email notification preferences
Activity log
For security and transparency, we maintain an activity log for each account. This log records:
- Sign-in events — including the sign-in method (Google or email link), the IP address of the device used, and the browser user agent string
- Profile changes — when your name is created or updated
- Email preference changes
- Post interactions — when you like, mark as insightful, share, save, or unsave a post
You can view your own activity log at any time from your Account › Activity Log page. Entries are immutable — they cannot be edited or deleted.
Analytics and advertising data (all visitors)
We integrate third-party analytics and advertising tools — including Google Analytics and Google AdSense — to understand how visitors interact with our content and to serve relevant advertising. These tools may or may not collect various usage signals depending on your browser settings, consent state, and the tools’ own configuration. The specific signals collected, and how they are processed, are governed by Google’s own terms and privacy policy rather than ours.
We do not have direct visibility into or control over the exact data these services collect from your device.
2. IP Address Collection
When you sign in to Snippix, your IP address is recorded in your activity log. This is stored in our database (Firebase Firestore, operated by Google LLC) and is visible to you in your Activity Log. We collect IP addresses on sign-in for the following purposes:
- Security — to help you identify sign-ins from unrecognised locations
- Fraud prevention — to detect and investigate unauthorised access
- Transparency — so you have a full picture of when and where your account was accessed
IP addresses are not used for advertising, tracking across third-party sites, or sold to any party.
3. Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to distinguish unique visitors and track sessions. The primary cookies set are:
_ga— distinguishes unique users; expires after 2 years_ga_*— maintains session state; expires after 2 years
Firebase Authentication may store a session token in your browser’s local storage to keep you signed in across visits. This token is used solely to authenticate your requests to Firestore and is not shared with third parties.
You can disable analytics cookies through your browser settings or opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
4. How We Use Your Information
Information collected through your account is used to:
- Provide account features — saving posts, remembering preferences
- Send email notifications you have opted into
- Maintain a security and activity record accessible to you
- Investigate unauthorised access or abuse if reported
Any usage signals or analytics data we have access to are used solely to:
- Improve the platform — building features that match how people actually use Snippix
- Improve user experience — making the product faster, clearer, and more enjoyable
- Understand content performance at an aggregate level
5. Intended Use of Data — No Selling
We do not sell, license, rent, or otherwise commercially transfer any user data or analytics metrics to any third party. Full stop. Any data we collect or have access to is used only internally — to make Snippix better for the people who use it.
This applies to all data we hold: account information, activity logs, bookmarks, preferences, and any product analytics signals.
However, data that flows into or is processed by Google Analytics or Google AdSense is handled by Google LLC under their own terms and conditions. We have no control over how Google processes that data, and it is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Google’s Advertising Policies. By using Snippix you acknowledge and accept Google’s data practices as they relate to these services.
6. Third-Party Data Processors
We use the following services to operate Snippix:
- Firebase Authentication (Google LLC) — handles sign-in via Google OAuth and email magic links
- Firebase Firestore (Google LLC) — stores your profile, bookmarks, preferences, and activity log
- Google Analytics (Google LLC) — usage analytics
- Google AdSense (Google LLC) — advertising
- Cloudflare Pages — hosts and serves the website
Each of these services operates under its own privacy policy and terms. Data processed by Google Analytics and Google AdSense is governed entirely by Google’s own policies — see section 5 above.
7. Data Storage Location
All account data — including your profile, email address, IP address, saved posts, preferences, and activity log — is stored on infrastructure located in the United States. Specifically, this data is held within Google LLC’s Firebase platform, which operates out of US-based data centres.
We do not maintain separate data stores in Europe or any other region. By creating an account and using Snippix, you acknowledge and consent to your data being stored and processed in the United States.
8. Data Retention
Account data (profile, bookmarks, preferences, and activity log) is retained for as long as your account exists. If you wish to delete your account and all associated data, please contact us at hello@snippix.co.
Activity log entries are immutable and cannot be individually deleted, as they form a security record. Deleting your account removes all log entries.
Google Analytics data is retained for 26 months, after which it is automatically deleted by Google.
9. Children's Privacy
Snippix is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
10. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you — your activity log is available directly at Account › Activity Log
- Request a copy of your account data
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Object to or restrict certain processing activities
- Withdraw consent at any time (e.g. by signing out or adjusting email preferences)
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@snippix.co.
11. Analytics on Beta vs. Production
Google Analytics is only active on snippix.co (our production site). Our beta environment does not run analytics tracking. Account features and Firestore are active on both environments.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by an updated date at the top of this page. Continued use of Snippix after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
13. Contact
If you have questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or how your data is handled, please reach out to us at hello@snippix.co.
